Overview:
Center of Carbon and Polymer Composite Materials in School of Materials Science and Engineering was established in July 2015, which was originated from Center of Nanoscale of Science and Technology in College of Chemistry generated in 2004.
Center focuses on the most attractive frontier disciplines of nanomaterials and polymer science and engineering, including graphene, carbon nanotubes and their high performance with polymer composites, Intelligent polymer materials, flexible and stretchable devices.
Center have been supported by broad resources, including National Natural Science Foundation, National 973 and 863 Programs, the Key Technologies R&D Program from Tianjin Research Foundation, etc. So far, more than 100 papers have been published in high level journals (including Nat. Photonics, Nat. Commun., Adv. Mater., Nano Lett., JACS, ACS Nano, Adv. Funct. Mater.) with more than 10000 citations. These research works have won many important awards, such as the Natural science and technology progress awards from the Chinese government.
Team members:
Center was established only three years and composed of three professors and one lecturer. Over the next few years, center would like to introduce several talents and researchers to build a research group under diverse research backgrounds and creative developed prospect.
Laboratory facility
The area of our center is nearly 400 square meters and the equipment of the laboratory is complete. Center consists of many state-of-the-art instruments for the high-level experiments in material science. The facilities are:
Contact angle meter, LAND-CT 2001A battery test system, optical microscope, electrochemical workstation, 3D printer, coating machine, automated screen printer, double glove box system, UV curing system, DHR-2 rheometer(TA instruments),mechanical testing system, motorized linear stage with a Keithley 200 digital multimeter, electrospinning system and one ultra-clean laboratory.
Academic education
Besides scientific research, our center pays much attention on cultivating students’ innovative thinking, strong research skills, and team spirit. All professors are active participants in the undergraduate education like offering basic theoretical courses and guiding undergraduate for their bachelor degrees. Our center supervises over 30 graduate students and have multi openings for Postdoc and Staff (Associate) Scientists currently. Every year, several students will achieve the national first-class scholarships.

In the coming few years, our center will set up a strong, cooperative and international team of more than 5 professors and 40 students. This center will provide a creative and supportive environment where world-class research and high-quality education could be delivered in important discipline of Nano Materials and Polymer Science and Engineering.
