The Dorothy K. – The First Look

Posted in News, Shows, Uncategorized on September 28th, 2009 by The Boss

We’re exhausted, and we have been for an entire week. But we are also patting ourselves on the back because thousands of people came through our installation at the New Island Festival on Governors Island, and a sizable portion stayed to watch our performance of The Dorothy K. The house was full each and every night.

Plus, we collected a bunch of weird stories: the Living Jukebox; those fucking crazy Dutch; the theft of 40 pounds of our pork fat; a thrilling hospital visit with special guest Bob from Twin Peaks; no running water; children running in and out of the house like crazy; C. Ryder Cooley and her beautiful saw; WINE; “Boulevard of Broken Dreams;” The Sheriff; Silent Disco; the Goat and Sheep ferry; “Where is The Pharmacy?;” The King of American Breakfast; wisdom teeth; Rufus Wainwright and TV on the Radio in attendance; small bounces; and on and on and on and on and on and on.

We’ll talk more about the show later, but we know everyone is aching for photographs of the actual production, so here’s some to whet your appetite.

More talk later. Mandie, Ryan, and Ari are posting this from the bus to Boston to meet with American Repertory Theater. Mandie and Ryan will continue on to Detroit to meet with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Detroit. We have a lot to tell you, but we can only tell you in bits.

Implied Violence: Live at The Hideout

Come one, come all to the classy and close bar/parlor The Hideout for a party in support of the classy and close theater/troublemakers Implied Violence. For the evening of Wednesday, August 19th, Implied Violence will be holding court at The Hideout, located at 1005 Boren Avenue on First Hill. Featuring the artful making of lemon preserves by Michael Hebb, opera singing by Implied Violence Ingénue Pile of Meat, and I.V. gear hawking (get your swagger on), this one-night event, hosted gracefully by Greg Lundgren & The Hideout, is a fundraiser. It’s free to get in, but come thirsty with your wallets greased. All proceeds from this evening go towards getting the Implied Violence crew to New York City, where they will be premiering their new experimental work “The Dorothy K.” for The New isLand Festival on Governor’s Island. It’s the talk of the summer, so some say. Implied Violence needs a little extra help from the community to realize our vision. The times are tough but, Implied Violence, with your support, is tougher.

What: Implied Violence: Live at The Hideout
Where: The Hideout, 1005 Boren Avenue

Shot-A-Thon Week Two Update

Posted in DollaBillz on July 29th, 2009 by Mandie

I am sitting now at the new Cupcake Royale on Capitol Hill. It is air conditioned, which, after six hours behind an espresso machine at my job in Madrona, feels fucking fantastic. There are so many people in here, just soaking up AC and calories.

I have purchased several bottles of Evan Williams Whiskey, which are sitting in a large brown bag at my feet. Nobody is coming to visit me and get more booze, which is a bad sign for the Implied Violence Shot-a-Thon. So I am posting the results of the second-week check-in/tally-up in hopes of inspiring more booze selling to the hot and hungry masses.

Shot-a-Thon Leaderboard Week Two

Expect many Shot-a-Thon Sponsors at Implied Violence’s first funding bash this weekend:
“No Friends Only Enemies” will have three bars, vagina punch, and whiskey shots. Straight Up!

A New Paris

Posted in Uncategorized on July 27th, 2009 by Mandie

This is an article I talk about a lot. It is an article from The New York Times I read a while back, I think in March of this year, about an architecture/urban planning competition that France’s President Nicholas Sarkozy proposed for transforming Paris into the first “post-Kyoto” city. Paris is the city of love and light, a place I have only been to once, and a city whose landmarks and their histories give it its strong identity as much as the people inhabiting it. This contest had 10 finalists, the most provocative and “outlandish” proposal was to move all of the existing monuments and landmarks of Paris to outlying, gritty neighborhoods. I enjoy this image, this gesture, this thought and the boldness to pursue writing and planning such an act. The architect is Paris-based Roland Castro. I think Implied Violence will help Mr. Castro with our fleet of Zeppelins: we will simultaneously black out the sun over Paris while moving all of the monuments in the city while darkness overtakes the city of light. And when IV’s fleet of Zeppelins moves on to the next city: Cairo, London, St. Petersberg, Tokyo, and so forth…Paris’ rioting masses will calm and draw new maps. Cartographical Catastrophy.

Above is the link to the article about said competition. It is definitely worth a look-see!

“Best of…” is our good friend Joey Veltkamp’s blog about art and culture in Seattle. His blog is the best blog by one of the best and nicest people in the whole city…maybe the whole state, country, continent, hemisphere, world, and universe. Joey is a man-about-town who is seen at every event, every opening, every show, every bar, every restaurant, all of the time. He recently went on a trip to Montreal and New York, which he writes about with wonderful excitement and wonder. Joey posts about Implied Violence quite often, and is one of our biggest supporters. “Best of…” is the best.

Dead Doags

Posted in Uncategorized on July 26th, 2009 by The Boss

I read this in the Seattle times yesterday. There is a documentary that Tom Chapel made me sit through called Dealing Dogs http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/dealingdogs/ which was awful and sad and really weird. The highlight was when they were making a mountain out of dog corpses with the quote, “dead doags”

Here is the Seattle times blurb:
