Home From The Donau Festival

Here are a few photos taken by the illustrious Steven Miller of The Dorothy K. our collaboration with The Parenthetical Girls.  Please forgive the snails pace with which I posted these photos. Implied Violence is very proud to have participated in The Donau Festival. We brought  26 Artists from Seattle, Portland, and New Jersey and were gifted the opportunity to work with an incredible chamber orchestra from Vienna. There are so many more photos to post and people to thank. For now I will just say that it was an honor and pleasure to work with everyone involved. I am still feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing.

Some More Pictures From The Dorothy K.

IV Fan Tracey Guinsburg says:

Hi all at Implied Violence. I saw your performance piece at the island in NYC and was impressed enough to buy the book and enjoyed the DVD very much and all the information provided about this group.
The photos I have sent here are of the 19th of Sept taken in NYC at the New Island Festival by my sister Tania Guinsberg, and I have just made a montage of the images as an expansion of the conceptual vision. All the best on this production and others for the future.

The Dorothy K. in Dutch Theater Press

Posted in Shows on October 13th, 2009 by The Boss

From TheaterMaker magazine, a Dutch publication:
Translation:

One of the most intriguing - and disturbing - entries from [America] comes from the Seattle-based collective Implied Violence. Their piece, The Dorothy K, unfolds both inside and in front of one of Governors Island’s gorgeous federalist homes on what’s known as ‘Colonel’s Row.’ When the performance piece is not taking place, visitors to the New isLand Festival can tour the house which has been transformed into a macabre testament to death and violence. An eerie soundscape plays throughout the house which has been arrayed with a brutally conceived array of items, including pig fetuses and pig entrails. This installation - which includes a performance which the writer was unable to experience - simultaneously chills and rivets and, even without witnessing the group’s production, this American company’s ability to fuse its vision with venue genuinely impresses.

The Dorothy K. – The First Look

Posted in News, Shows, Uncategorized on September 28th, 2009 by The Boss

We’re exhausted, and we have been for an entire week. But we are also patting ourselves on the back because thousands of people came through our installation at the New Island Festival on Governors Island, and a sizable portion stayed to watch our performance of The Dorothy K. The house was full each and every night.

Plus, we collected a bunch of weird stories: the Living Jukebox; those fucking crazy Dutch; the theft of 40 pounds of our pork fat; a thrilling hospital visit with special guest Bob from Twin Peaks; no running water; children running in and out of the house like crazy; C. Ryder Cooley and her beautiful saw; WINE; “Boulevard of Broken Dreams;” The Sheriff; Silent Disco; the Goat and Sheep ferry; “Where is The Pharmacy?;” The King of American Breakfast; wisdom teeth; Rufus Wainwright and TV on the Radio in attendance; small bounces; and on and on and on and on and on and on.

We’ll talk more about the show later, but we know everyone is aching for photographs of the actual production, so here’s some to whet your appetite.

More talk later. Mandie, Ryan, and Ari are posting this from the bus to Boston to meet with American Repertory Theater. Mandie and Ryan will continue on to Detroit to meet with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Detroit. We have a lot to tell you, but we can only tell you in bits.

“The Dorothy K.” to Be Presented at The New isLand Festival

Implied Violence is presenting “The Dorothy K.” in New York City this September as part of the New Island Festival.

The Dorothy K. is Part One of the middle section of a larger piece entitled “Flinch Not and Give Not Back”, a piece that was conceptualized during Implied Violence’s artistic residency at The Watermill Center. It exists as an articulated, accordion-like 4-part series, which, after it’s logical conclusion, illogically endures its death in a miserable afterlife—resting on top of and in relation to “Flinch Not and Give Not Back”, feeding off of it and sucking it dry. When The Dorothy K. finally succumbs to its death, its death being its ending, so ends “Flinch Not and Give Not Back”.

From the New Island Festival–
Direct from Holland, the New Island Festival will set up stakes on New York City’s Governors Island from September 10–13 and again from September 17–20. The festival will kick off the fall with concerts, DJ sets, provocative theatre, stunning site specific performance and dazzling visual arts, performed by world class Dutch performers. More than 100 artists will perform during the festival.

We’re having some benefit parties. Please join us.
