Debt and Debacle

Our dreaded container

Our dreaded container

After our return from Vienna, we have found ourselves swimming in debt. Due in large part to the monstrosity you see above.  This morning I received an e-mail from Parenthetical Girls asking if their flights from Vienna to London were canceled due to a British Airways strike.  They were.  After speaking with American Airlines for an hour it was made clear that I should wait until this evening to try and re-book their flights home. I was told that other airlines will honor their tickets but not until 5 days before their scheduled departure.  They are patiently waiting.

Perhaps we are just meat for the hungry, ravenous dogs?

No, no, not so. So, so.

We are mounting a counter attack. A plan to re-organize and we have friends.  The Lawrimore Project, The Byrd Hoffman Foundation,  The Frye Art Museum, and the amazing Miss Ari Spool are all doing their part. These things are still in the works but be on the look out for an art auction, book sell off, re-organized training and rehearsal sessions,  open rehearsals, and late night dinner discussions.

The Dorothy K. – The First Look

Posted in News, Shows, Uncategorized on September 28th, 2009 by The Boss

We’re exhausted, and we have been for an entire week. But we are also patting ourselves on the back because thousands of people came through our installation at the New Island Festival on Governors Island, and a sizable portion stayed to watch our performance of The Dorothy K. The house was full each and every night.

Plus, we collected a bunch of weird stories: the Living Jukebox; those fucking crazy Dutch; the theft of 40 pounds of our pork fat; a thrilling hospital visit with special guest Bob from Twin Peaks; no running water; children running in and out of the house like crazy; C. Ryder Cooley and her beautiful saw; WINE; “Boulevard of Broken Dreams;” The Sheriff; Silent Disco; the Goat and Sheep ferry; “Where is The Pharmacy?;” The King of American Breakfast; wisdom teeth; Rufus Wainwright and TV on the Radio in attendance; small bounces; and on and on and on and on and on and on.

We’ll talk more about the show later, but we know everyone is aching for photographs of the actual production, so here’s some to whet your appetite.

More talk later. Mandie, Ryan, and Ari are posting this from the bus to Boston to meet with American Repertory Theater. Mandie and Ryan will continue on to Detroit to meet with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Detroit. We have a lot to tell you, but we can only tell you in bits.

“The Dorothy K.” to Be Presented at The New isLand Festival

The Head

The Head

Implied Violence is presenting “The Dorothy K.” in New York City this September as part of the New Island Festival.

The Dorothy K. is Part One of the middle section of a larger piece entitled “Flinch Not and Give Not Back”, a piece that was conceptualized during Implied Violence’s artistic residency at The Watermill Center. It exists as an articulated, accordion-like 4-part series, which, after it’s logical conclusion, illogically endures its death in a miserable afterlife—resting on top of and in relation to “Flinch Not and Give Not Back”, feeding off of it and sucking it dry. When The Dorothy K. finally succumbs to its death, its death being its ending, so ends “Flinch Not and Give Not Back”.

From the New Island Festival–
Direct from Holland, the New Island Festival will set up stakes on New York City’s Governors Island from September 10–13 and again from September 17–20. The festival will kick off the fall with concerts, DJ sets, provocative theatre, stunning site specific performance and dazzling visual arts, performed by world class Dutch performers. More than 100 artists will perform during the festival.

We’re having some benefit parties. Please join us.
